FUNERAL.

MRS EDITH GARBETT. Mrs Edith Garbett. who passed away at her residence, 134, Victoria Street, on Sunday night, was a daughter of the late Thomas Henry Potts, of Governor's Bay, and was born at Rockwood in 1857. Her girlhood was spent at Governor’s Bay and there, in 1884, she was married to the Rev R. F. Garbett who, for the following seven years, was vicar of the parishes of Longbeach and Mount Somers. Both in these parishes and in Oxford, the cure of which Mr Garbett afterwards held for twenty-one years. Mrs Garbett became universally beloved, taking an active part in the life of the parish and being at all times ready with help and loving sympathy for all in need. On her husband’s sudden death in 1912, she came to reside in Christchurch, transferring her activities to the parish of St Luke’s and giving freely of her time and services in aid of all forms of chari t> r . During the War she was an untiring worker in aid of the Red Cross and continued her warm interest in the welfare of the returned soldiers up to the last. Her sudden death on Sunday night came as a severe shock to her very large circle of friends and has caused widespread grief. Her loss is felt to be irreparable. As so many of her old friends will be unable to attend the service at Oxford, a memorial service, in which Archbishop Julius will take part, will l>e held simultaneously at St Luke’s.
