MR COATES SENDS MESSAGES TO BYRD PARTY.

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, December 3.

On the eve of the departure of the Byrd expedition for the Antarctic, Mr Coates, on behalf of the people of New Zealand, extended to the expedition cordial good wishes for the success of the undertaking. The Prime Minister stated that New Zealand would render all assistance in its power should the occasion arise. C ommander Byrd replied, expressing gratitude for hospitality and the offer of . assistance.
