BICYCLE THIEF IS GIVEN PROBATION.

Frederick Farrant (Mr Amodeo) appeared for sentence in the Magistrate’s Court this morning on charges of stealing a bicycle at Ashburton, and of procuring one by false pretences. Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., was on the Bench.

“ The Probation Officer has made a favourable report about you,” said the Magistrate to the accused. “ The future is now in your hands. If you make the effort, you can live down your mistakes, but if you don’t they will always crop up. You are admitted to two years’ probation, and you are ordered to pay for the damage to the stolen cycles within six months. A special condition is that you must live with your parents.”
