ATHLETICS.
THREE CUPS GIVEN FOR SUMNER LADIES. meeting- of the eommitteo of the SNunner Amaeur Athletic Club was held last night. Present—Mrs G. F. Allen (president). Misses Ellis (2), and Lawson. Messrs L. L. 11. Brown, P. Dick, H. Bishop, J . Bam ford, C. L. Allen, R. Knox and A. E. Joseph. Mr Brow.n offered three silver challenge cuns for senior, junior and lady members respectively, to be won outright in two successive years or on the merits of performance at the end of four years. The chairman extended the thanks of of the- club for the handsome gifts and 'stated that they would prove a great incentive to the young club. It was decided that Mr J. Bamford should be trustee for the club funds. The secretary reported a membership of about seventy, and the treasurer (Mr Bamford) gmp the balance as £8 9s Id. Tt was decided to increase the club's representation on the Canterbury Genre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association by the addition of Mr AE. Joseph. It was reported that at bfie meetings held this season the dub had already gained seven firsts, five seconds, and one third. The chairman was asked to make inquiries regarding facilities for athletic sports at St Leonards Park. It was decided to hold the first club meeting at St Leonards Park on Thursday. December 6, and to get into touch with the Sumner Borough Council and the Canterbury Centre regarding this. The following programme was agreed upon:—looyds Junior and senior, 75yds ladies', 100yds primary scholars (boys and girls), high jump, long jump, 440yds walking, 220 and 440yds senior. It was agreed that Mr It. Knox should take entries up to December 1. The following programme committee was elected:-—Messrs Neville, Bishop, Bamford, KLnox, and Misses Lawson and Lilia iZj.
