LE THORPE PENALISED. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, November 17. Le Thorpe is penalised 48yds in the Progressive Handicap. WANGANUI NOTES. (Special to the “Star.") WANGANUI. November J 7. Training operations have been quiet since the Wellington meeting, but in view of the near approach of the Otaki and FeiJding meetings the tracks are getting busy again. The Warden is engaged at Feildir.g, and may be taken to Auckland, where he figures in the Derby. This morning he was given good pace work, moving freely. Ceremony was much too good for Alloy in a sprint over three furlongs,

which the brother to Lysander left behind comfortably in 3Ssec, being three lengths ahead of his companion. Cobham put in two rounds, the second at a good three-quarter pace. The son of Ilesky—Dream is a nice mover, and he promises to make good. He will race at the Manawatu meeting. Acre was given a spin over five furlongs, which he left behind in lmin 5 3-osec. It was his first gallop for some time from almost a standing start, and he was wide out. He w’ill race at Otaki. Pedestal was restricted to good pace work, the half-brother by Thespian to Commendation finishing up nicely. Lysander was given a run over five furlongs, and he accomplished his task in good style; cutting out the distance nicely in lmin 3sec. Mask was sent a round at half pace, and then ran the last six of seven furlongs in lmin 14sec. He will probably be a runner in the Auckland Cup. Episode is in work again, and appears to be free of soreness, which troubled her in Auckland. If she goes on ail right the Limond filly should be in good order by Christmas time. Vivo is galloping in good style. At Hawera on Thursday she finished three lengths ahead of Orazone, with Paitonu a similar distance further back, at the end of a six furlongs run in lmin 16 l-ssec. Coolmint is sprinting well, and he should not be long in placing a win to his credit. On Thursday he left half a mile behind in 50 l-ssec. Gasnapper js rapidly getting into top form, and should not be long in winning a race. Calamine went a bit stale on the trip to Riccarton, and has been turned out for a week or two to freshen up. Two youngsters which are showing more than average speed at Ilawera are Latakia, the half-brother to Narsuma, and Golden Flower, by Tonbridge from Fleeting. They sprinted a couple of furlongs on Thursday in 24. 3-ssee. ENGLISH RACING. DERBY CUP. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copy right.) (Received November 17, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, November 16.
