ST ALBANS SCHOOL. A meeting of householders on Mon day evening was poorly attendee Owing to financial loss sustained in previous picnics, it was decided to abandon the annual picnic. It was also decided to hold a “sports” day prior to the Christmas vacation, and a flower show on February 23, 1929. In connection with the latter a comprehensive schedule was drawn up, which included prizes for cut flowers, pot plants, vegetable section, table decorations, cooking and needlework, and a children’s section for meccano, plasticine and children’s zoo. A number of side-shows will be provided. The chairman of the School Committee, Mr F. Brierley, presided over the meeting. ST ALBANS SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The usual monthly meeting of the committee was held on Tuesday evening, Mr F. Brierley presiding over the following:—Messrs Plumridge, Trim, Ewings, Erasmusson, Forsey and Stanton. An apology was received from Mr A. Harper. *’ The head master’s and Works Committee’s reports were received and adopted. It was reported that the new assistant master, Mr Newbury had commenced his duties on November 1. The dental clinic had treated 148 Shirley children and re-examinedjl3B St Albans children. The roll number now stood at 797. It was very gratifying to note that cases of sickness during the previous month had been very small. LOYAL BENEVOLENT LODGE, M.U.1.0.0.F. The Loyal Benevolent Lodge met on Monday night, N.G. Brother Longley presiding. Members of the Sister Pearce Lodge were present and received a very hearty welcome. A “clearance” was receiygd from the Loyal Reefton Lodge, United Westland District, in favour of Brother Castle, who was accepted as a member of the lodge. One candidate was initiated into the Order, together with one lady honorarv member. P.G.’s Brothers T. Reed and H. P. Le Page acted as condtictors. P.G. Brother S. J. Geary reported on the official visit to the Loyal City of Christchurch Lodge. The following were elected the Christmas Tree Com-

The ordinary meeting of the Hope of St Albans Lodge, U.A.0.D., was held on Tuesday, PA. Brother S. Styles n presiding. Correspondence was receiv- i y ed from the secretary of the U.F.S. | r Dispensary, stating that owing to the r - large increase of occupied beds it ■- would be necessary to increase the .1 levy. Fisher and P.A. Brother Hamlin, of the Perseverance Lodge. Brothers reported on visits paid to the Oak of Sydenham and Mistletoe Lodges. The Friendly Societies Department, Well lington, notified the executive that the 1925 valuation would be completed by the end of the year. SHIRLEY METHODIST CHURCH SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC. On Friday, November 9, the annual picnic of the Sunday School was held at Richmond. The day was gloriously fine, and as a result a large number of children and young people gathered to spend a day in the open. Games of various kinds were indulged in and races for the children were run. After lunch further games of cricket, rounders, etc., were played, while some of the young people played games of tennis and others went for a row on the river. During the afternoon Mr Pearne, on behalf of the Young Men’s Bible Class, presented Mr A. Barwick with a book, upon the eve of his departure for Wellington to commence business there. ,
