NURSE WROTE AN INDISCREET LETTER TO A PRISONER.
IS DISMISSED FROM AUCKLAND HOSPITAL. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, November 16. Unusual circumstances connected with the summary dismissal of a nurse from the Auckland Hospital for sending an indiscreet letter to a prisoner in the Mount Eden gaol resulted in a petition, signed by a number of nurses, being sent to the board asking for reconsideration of the case, but eventually it was decided not to go on with it. The chairman of the board stated today that a prisoner had been receiving nine days’ treatment at the hospital, and when he returned to gaol the nurse sent him a letter allegedly containing reflections on the matron. The gaol authorities intercepted it, and showed it to, the medical superintendent. *The matter then came before the board, which decided to dismiss the nurse. The superintendent stated that the nurse had removed the fasteners from her window, confirming the statement in her letter that she had been coming into the nurses’ home at 1.30 in the morning. ,
