MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) Patrick Donelly, charged with drunkenness and breach of his prohibition order for the third time in a short period, was described by the police as a man who was decent and hard-work-ing when at his job in the country, but with no restraint in the city, where he always fell for liquor. Accused was ordered to pay medical expenses, £1 10s, and car hire, 3s, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment, and on the second charge was convicted and discharged. BREACH OF ORDER. For a breach of his prohibition order, Maurice Brown was fined £2 and costs. NEGLIGENT DRIVING. For negligent driving, Ernest Caldwell was fined £2 and costs. John Price (Mr Connal) was fined £3 and costs for negligent driving. FAILING TO GIVE WAY. For failing to give way to cars approaching on their right at intersections, Edward H. Yates • (Mr Twyneham) was fined £2 and costs, and Thomas Whitehouse was fined £2 and costs. CUTTING A CORNER. Alfred Anderton (Mr Stacey) was fined £2 and costs for cutting a corner. For having no license, he was fined 10s and costs. NO LIGHTS. The following were fined for cycling without lights:—William Neish, 10s and costs; Leonard Dunmill, 10s and costs; Henry Richards, 10s and costs; James Williams, 10s and costs. * MOTORS WITHOUT LIGHTS. Phillip Fuller was fined 5s and costs for having no tail-light on a motor-car. On a similar charge, Norman Flannigan was convicted and discharged. John Henry Jones was fined 5s and costs for having no tail-light on a mo-tor-car, and Phillip Fuller and Harold Oatis were each fined 5s and costs for having no tail-light on a motor-cycle. George Poulton, for motor-cycling without a light, was fined ss. He made a voluntary appearance. For having no tail-light on a motorcycle, Leslie E. Topp was fined 5s and costs. NO LICENSE. For driving motor vehicles without being licensed to do so, the following were fined: —Lewis Arnold West, ss; Norman Flannigan, 10s and costs; Percy Hazeldine, 5s and costs; Andrew Provan, 10s and costs. BREACH OF ACT. For a breach of the Motor Vehicles Act, John Grant Mackie was fined 10s and costs. CYCLING ON THE FOOTPATH. The following were fined for cycling on the footpath:—John M’Cormick, 10s and costs; John Wallace, 10s and I osts. FALSE STATEMENT. For giving a false name and address to a constable, Leslie M’Kenzie was fined £1 and costs.
