BYRD AND WILKINS OFF TO ANTARCTIC. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) NEW YORK, October 11. Los Angeles reports state that Commander Byrd, aboard the whaler C. A. Larsen, sailed this evening from San Pedro harbour for the Antarctic. It is reported from Montevideo today that Sir Hubert Wilkins, with his two companion explorers, arrived here to-day on the steamer Southern Cross. They will remain for two weeks, after which they will embark by the steamer Victoria for Deception Island to establish a. base.—Australian Press Association.
