DELICATE SITUATION IN TRAINING CAMPS.

CHAPLAINS SHOULD BE IN SYMPATHY WITH WORK.

Special reference was made at the Baptist Union Conference to-day. to the appointment of military chaplains It was pointed out by the Rev C. W Duncumb that it was possible to have men going into the camps who were totally opposed to the spirit of the camps. “There is,” he said, “ a delicate situation operating in camps.” He praised the supervision in the training camps, where the commanding officers were doing their best to stamp out anything undesirable. Mr Duncumb said that he had used words in the other direction; but he now wished to stress the need of officers who are sympathetic, rather than to have men who might be excellent in other directions but not in sympathy with the military work.
