SOCCER.

Y.M.C.A. CLUB. To mark tlie successful end °t the 1928 football season, the Y.M.C.A. third and fifth grade teams were entertained last evening at a. tea In the club rooms bv Mr G. Yates, coach of the third grade team. Toasts were drunk to * Our King and Country, proposed by the chairman; “Mr G. Yates, proposed by Len Sharr; “Mr Sharr.” proposed by Tick Nelligan; and “Mr I*. fc-. S- Long, proposed ' Will Bryan. Messrs Sharr, Yates and Long responded. Cheers were called for, for the ladies who had prepared the tea, after which each lady was presented with a small gift in appreciation of her services. Mr G. Yates presented the medals to the A team, winners of the C.F.A. slx-a-side tournament and a special set of medals to the B team, the members of which played so well during the tournament. Mr Yates also presented each member of the third grade team with a tie-pin, apd the captain, W. Br3'an. with a gold medal for being the best player during the season. Mr Sharr presented the medals to the fifth grade A team, winners of the fifth grade C.F.A. six-a-side tournament. Jack Nelligan, captain of the fifth grade team, thanked Mr Sharr for the interest he had shown in their team and for his services as coach during the season. He asked Mr Sharr to accept a brief bag as a. small token of their appreciationThe chairman complimented the third grade team on what was probably a record in Canterbury football, Lhat. of finishing the season undefeated with 81 goals for and 2 against. They were winners of the C.F.A third grade petition shield, six-a-side cup and medals and knock-out competition cup. The fifth grade team were also very successful, having won the C.F.A. fifth grade competition shield, six-a-side cup and medals and Sevicke Jones Cup for knock-out competition.
