When the City Council estimates were under consideration there was a sum provided for extensions to the Addington Library, but it was pointed out that the amount was not sufficient to complete the building, and it was decided to strike the item out with a view to making provision in next year’s estimates for the work. The Addington Library Committee recently wrote stating that as promises had been made by the council at various times during the past few years to erect a frontage to the library building, it £elt concerned that it had again been overlooked, and suggested that a sum be placed on next year’s estimates to complete the building, and that a start be made with the work as soon as possible before March next, so as to give the committee the accommodation it so urgently required. At last night’s meeting of the council the Finance Committee recommended that the city engineer be instructed to have the plans prepared, tenders called for the work, and a start made so that the building would be completed in April next; payment for the work to be provided for in next year’s estimates.
