AMATEUR ATHLETIC CENTRE MEETS.
The executive committee of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association met last evening. Present: Messrs W. Flewellyn (president), R. Beattie, E. H. Cross, Harper, A. L. Lewis, Todd, C. H. Taylor jun., M. Leadbetter, W. A. Ford and G. G. Lockwood (hon secretary). An application for affiliation by the newly-formed Sumner Athletic Club was granted. The club colours are to be black and white and the membership is already over 50. An applicat on for reinstatement as an amateur from D. I. Barclay (Waimate) was forwarded to the New Zealand Council. A similar application from R. F Eastwood (Timaru), a cyclist, was forwarded to the New Zealand Council with the centre’s recommendation. The programme for the sports meeting of the Omihi Athletic Club, to be held at Om.hi on October 22, was approved. The programme, including 100yds open race, for the Canterbury College Athletic Club’s annual spring meeting, to be held on Saturday, was approved.
It was decided to send congratulations to the successful Christchurch riders in the fifty miles North Island cycling championship, held last week. Mr Beattie reported that the blazer committee recommended that the following athletes be granted provincial blazers:—M. Leadbetter, J. W. Batstone, J. W. M’Holm, F. J. Grose, L. G. Lukey, A. W. Day, K. Nankivell, G Nicoll and C. S. Thomas.
The chairman, reporting that the annual meeting of the centre would be held on Tuesday next, thanked the executive officers for their splendid assistance during the past season which had been a most successful one.
