BOARD DISCUSSES CONDITIONS AT RANGIORA HOSPITAL.
Nursing conditions at the Rangiora Hospital were referred to at the meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board to-day. Mrs M’Combs asked what was being done along the lines of investigating the conditions. She had asked for a report upon the average number of hours worked by the nurses in the hospital, and also the conditions under which they were engaged. She had visited the hospital and had found that the nurses worked ten hours daily when they were busy, and eight hours on other days. “They’re nearly always busy,” remarked Mrs M’Combs. The chairman (Mr 11. J. Otley) stated that he and two other members of the board had visited the hospital and had found everything all right. Mrs M’Conibs: Doesn’t that sound nice! The chairman: It’s good to hear something nice now and again. (Laughter). Mrs M’Combs stated that there was no place for the nurses to go where they did not have to listen to crying babies, unless they went to bed and put their heads under the blankets. The chairman assured Mrs M’Combs, that the matter was receiving attention.
