Medical men are said to be responsible for a revival of interest in snufftaking, a practice that monarchs, statesmen, Popes, bishops and many other people of high standing used to follow as a religious rite. The old snuff house in the Haymarket, London, with the sign 6f the Rasp and Crown, dates back more than 200 years. Ledgers 120 years old show that in the latter hah oflßo9 Beau Brummell ran up a snuff bill of £l4 13s 10d. P
