The accompanying game was played in the last. international match between America and Great Britain. The score and notes (by A. J. Heffner) are from the Match Book:
26—23(c) 25—21 8— 3 White wins. (a) Important, otherwise White drops into a weak line of the "Second Double Corner,” as the 29—19 would have to be made sooner or later. (b) 10—14 is quite good with an equal position. (c) Now the same as Banks v. Goldsboro brought up by a different order of <d) Varies-from Banks, who played 2—7, and kept the play along a wellknown line, 11—16 is dangerous unless one is well acquainted with the play. (e) Tierney, a Boston player of note, called my attention to this move some years ago, thinking White could win by it. I convinced him he was mistaken, but do not recall the play. (f) White now has the pull, and Black must be very cautious. (g) Very weak; 11—16, 7—3. 20—24 draws easily. Ferrle was evidentlv tired out raentaily. (h) At this point Ferrie resigned. Afterwards Ginsberg showed the following continuation for a win:— 23—26, 31—22, 20—24, 28—19, 16 23 18—27, 25—9, 13—6, I—lo, 27 24, 12—1 16, 32—27, 10—16, 24—20. White wins.
