UNIONS TO OPPOSE NEW TRANSPORT BILL.
SYDNEY, September 24. The watersiders worked without a hitch to-day. Large numbers attended the afternoon pick-up. A meeting of the New South Wale-* transport group of unions decided to oppose strenuously the Transport Work ers Bill, which provides for the registration of workers and safeguards for free labour, and plans are being made to call a Federal conference of unions to discuss ways and means. Loading at Newcastle of the steamer Poolta, which is en route to New Zealand via north coast ports, was concluded by volunteer labour. The unionists are still working one steamer.—Australian Press Association.
