At the Memorial Hall, Papanui. last night the lion Crawford Vaughan gave an address cm temperance. Mr S. R Webb presided over a good attendance. The combined choirs of the Presbyterian, Anglican and Methodist Churches, under the conductorship of Mr F. Christian, led a “community sing.” Mr 11. Hobday wrote to the New Brighton Borough Council, stating that the channels in the estuary are filling up through the deposit of silt sent down by the river sweeper, and asking the New Brighton Borough to be represented on a deputation of representatives from the boroughs of New Brighton and Sumner, Heat.hcote County, and various sailing clubs, to wait upon the Lyttelton Harbour Board with a view to discussing the position and obtaining relief. The Mayor (Cap tain A. W. Owles) and Councillor C. D. Muirson were appointed at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council to attend the conference.
