NEW KAIAPOI ELECTORATE IS MUCH CHANGED.

BOUNDARY NOW CUTS ACROSS ST ALBANS. The Ivaiapoi electorate, for which the Reform candidate will be chosen at a conference to be held in the Chamber of Commerce, Christchurch,. to-mor-row afternoon, has undergone a very radical change since the last election. A large slice of the northern portion of the electorate has been added to Hurunui and new areas have been added from the Riccarton, Christchurch North, and Avon districts. The Kaiapoi electorate is now, in fact, as much representative of urban and industrial interests as of rural interests. When the in the boundaries were announced, many residents of north St Albans and the ShirleyRichmond district were surprised to find that they were in the Kaiapoi electorate. The boundary now cuts across from Papanui railway station along Drain Road, Macfadden’s Road, Thames Street, Warrington Street, .Hill’s Road, North Avon Road to the River Avon. The boundary then follows the northern bank of the Avon to Racecourse Road, just past the Bower Bridge, and continues along Racecourse Road to Beach Road, and thence to the sea. The Shirley-Richmond area was in Avon at the last election and the portion of north St Albans was in Christchurch North. The other areas added to the electorate have been taken from Riccarton. The following districts have been taken out of the Kaiapoi electorate and added to Hurunui:—Rangiora, Cust, Woodend, Southbrook, Fernside and Waikuku. The districts added to Kaiapoi are: Weedons, West Melton, Yaldhurst, Templeton; Rolleston, Islington, Hornby, Halkett, Greendale, Charing Cross and Burnham (from the Riccarton electorate), north St Albans (from Christchurch North) and Shirley-Richmond (from Avon). The districts which were included in the Kaiapoi electorate last election and which still remain in, are: Kaiapoi, Belfast, Papanui, Burwood, Marshland, Mairehau, Ohoka, Kirwee, Clarkville, Harewood, West Eyreton, Darfield, Dallington, Swannanoa, East Eyreton, Ouruhia, Kirikiri, Warren, Kimberley, Aylesbury, Ohapuku and Spencerville. At the last election, the number of electors on the roll was 8599 and 7817 valid votes were cast. The voting resulted as follows:—Hon D. Buddo (Nationalist) 3594, William Brock (Reform) 3038, C. Morgan Williams (Labour) 1185. The candidates already in the field for the coming election are Mr R. W. Hawke (United), Mrs E. R. M’Combs . (Labour). For the Reform Party’s nomination, the candidates are Messrs J. W. Beanland, L. B. Evans and J. A. Flesher. There is also a possibility that Mr W. P. Spencer may contest the seat as an Independent.
