CRICKET.

OLD BOYS’ CLUB. The annual report of the High School Old Boys’ Cricket Club for the 1927-2 S season states that the season was a most successful one in every way, and all members enjoyed a good season’s cricket. Six teams were entered in the Canterbury Association’s competitions. The senior team won the first grade competition, and, as it was only the second season of the team in this grade, it was a particularly good performance. The team was strengthened by the in elusion of W. E. Merritt and for some games of M. L. Page, after their retu* n from England. Eleven matches were played, seven won, three lost and one drawn. The first grade B team won the B grade competition, and played good cricket throughout the season. Teams were also entered in the second grade A and B and the third grade competitions, and, although none of these teams was very successful, the members had an enjoyable season. The club was third in the Petersen Shield competition. v The financial position of the cluj) was satisfactory, in spite of the fact that extensive alterations were made to the pavilion and additional ground rent paid. During the season afternoon tea was provided at Hagley Park, and a substantial profit was made. The committee desired to express its appreciation of the help given to the club by Mrs Jacobs, Misses Jacobs, Hewland, Mortlock and Gilmour. The profit which was mad 6 was due solely to the untiring efforts of these ladies. The committee also wished to thank the ladies who assisted at tfie annual dance, Mr Forbes, who scored for the senior eleven throughout the season, and the Old Boys who had given donations. The annual meeting of the club will be held next Thursday at 7.25 p.m.
