ALBANIA MAY BECOME MONARCHY ONCE MORE.
ALBANIA, now a republic. may soon become a monarchy. A cable this morning from Durazzo, the capital, say-s that the Constituent Assembly is expected very shortly to proclaim President Ahmed Bey- Zogu King of Albania. This will be with the approval of Signor Mussolini. On June 8 it was reported in authoritative Albanian circles that Ahmed Zogu was planning to proclaim a monarchy- with himself as King. After a y r ear of disturbance which followed the meeting of the first Albanian Parliament in March, 1921 Ahmed Bey Zogu became head of the Albanian Republic, and a period of comparative tranquility reigned. In 1924 Southern Albania revolted, and Ahmed Zogu and his friends fled to Belgrade and Corfu. Bishop Fan S. Noli, leader of the Democratic and Liberal Party-, was in control for a while, but before a year was out Ahmed Zogu again entered Tirana. lie declared for a republic and was. appointed president. The last King Albania possessed was Prince William of Wied, who accepted the Crown in 1914, on March 7. But with the outbreak, of the Great War he and the members of the International Committee left the country, which fell into a state of anarchy.
