WOMEN WILL PROTEST AGAINST SQUARE PLAN.
At a well-attended meeting of the Women’s Branch of the Citizens’ Association last night the following resolution was passed:— “ That a strongly worded protest, signed by the various women's organisations of Christchurch, be sent to the Mayor against the proposed Cathedral Square improvement scheme.” It was also decided to send a deputation to the Mayor with the same end in view. The subject was outlined by Mrs John Montgomery, who presided. " I understand that it is not yet too late to voice our opinion in the matter,” she said. “ There are many things we can do. It is necessary that we act. immediately in this matter.” Lady Wigram and Mrs Spence Clarke were elected leaders of the deputation It was also decided to organise a petition. and to carry out the work a subcommittee was elected, comprising Mesdames Jellett, Anderson, Davis, Vernon and George Harris, Misses N. Elmslie, J. Fulton. M. Maude and Bowen.
