SAILING AND POWER BOAT CLUB REVIEWS SEASON.
The annual meeting of the Christchurch Sailing and Power Boat Club was held in the Navy League hall last evening, the Commodore, Mr J. D. M’Coll, presiding over a good attendance.
The annual report reviewed the season from opening day on October 22. The balance-sheet showed a balance of £34 18s lOd, while the club’s Sanders Cup fund was in credit to the extent of £7 17s 9d.
The report and balance-sheet was adopted. The sum of £5 5s was voted to the Sumner Lifeboat Institute. It was also decided to open up a subscription list, with the object of collecting more. Mr C. J. Treleaven said that he was of the opinion that the club was justified in suggesting to the Institute that a system of signals be used on the bar to enable sailing men to tell whether the bar was in a condition suitable for crossing or not. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr 11. S. E. Hob-1 day; vice-presidents, Messrs G. | Humphreys, W. H. Nicholson, 11. Holland, M.P., E. J. Howard, M.P., A. F. Stacey, W. J. Stacey, C. J. Treleaven and Dr C. C. Farr; commodore, Mr E. Smith; vice-commodore, Mr E. Butcher; rear commodore, Mr A. T. Round; hon. secretary, Mr R. Gormack; hon. treasurer, Mr R. Gormack; committee, Messrs T. Robinson, C. G. Balfour, F. Glanville, C. E. Allen and J. Hinds; social committee, Messrs F. Glanville, 11. Farr, G. Allen, C. Allen, J. M’Callum; hon. auditor, Mr C. J. Atkinson; delegate to the Sports Protection Association, Mr R. Gormack; handicappers, Messrs E. Smith, F. Morrison, F. Glanville, G. G. Andrews; house committee, Messrs F. Glanville, and C. E. Allen; club reporter, Mr J. Treleaven. The movement started by the club to form a new association to embrace all kindred clubs in Canterbury for the furtherance of sailing and motor boating was discussed. A meeting of delegates had been held recently and a report on that meeting was presented. Mr M’Coll said that there was need for an association. Mr F. Morrison suggested that the club give the association a twelve months’ trial. “Several clubs offered us assistance to send away a boat to Sanders Cup races,” said Mr H. D. Leeming. “If we want improvements to the estuary we must form an association and have a governing body. I suggest that the association be formed.” Mr A. T. Round : If we do not get together we will never get improvements. We must get the public interested in the sport and the only way to do this is to have an association. Mr G. G. Andrews moved that the club supports the forming of the new association. Alter some further discussion the motion was carried. Messrs J. D. M’Coll and H. D. Leem ing were elected delegates to repiesent the club on the Canterbury Sailing and Power Boat Club in the event of it being formed.
