AVON WILLOWS COME INTO BUD NOW.

SIGNS THAT SEASON IS A NORMAL ONE. Just as surely as the seasons come round, so'.do the willows on the banks of the Avon burst into bud within a day or two of August 19. Encouraged by to-day's sunshine, the first green buds were to be seen through the dull- , ness of the branches. The fact that the willows have sprung into bud at the usual time indicates that the season is a normal one. Although the weather has been fine for the greater part of the month, growth has been steadied by cold nights and by a lack of moisture in the soil, which has prevented the free circulation of sap. It is noticeable that the willow branches on the river side of the bank bear more buds than those on the street side, this being ascribed to the effect of * the moisture of the river on ’ the roots on that side of the trees.
