DEAN INGE REPLIES TO AUSTRALIAN PROTESTS.
(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received August IS. >1.50 *An' LONDON, August 17. Dean Inge, replying to Australian protests against his article in the * Evening Standard ” on the prospects for migrants there, repeats that he wrote hoping to be contradicted. The statements in his article were copied verbatim from ■ cuttings and letters from Australia. These opinions made it plain that Australia was very slow in development compared with America. This at least was partly due to labour legislation and incessant strikes. Numerous Englishmen were now looking for a country to which to send their sons. They wanted to know the truth about it, as he had said. * “It my correspondents have misinformed me, none will be better pleased than I,” says the Dean, “ but my inquiries regarding the prospects for emigrants in Australia have not received encouraging answers.” Sir G. de L. Rj-rie declined to comment on Dean Inge’s allegations.—Australian Press Association.
