Many attractive and useful articles were handed in by the committee for Violet Day. . During the month donations and subscriptions were gratefully received from the folowing:—Mesdames L. B. A petition with approximately a hundren names will be presented to the City Council on Monday night asking that body to purchase at a cost of £2OO a section backing on to a new reserve in St. James Avenue, so that in time to come when Papanui is more densely settled a road mav connect tWindemere Road and St. Tames j Avenue. To the residents to the ‘south east and north, St. James Park is available] but to the west the park is cut off by a street half a mile in length without a cross street. It is to rectify this error in the lay-out of Papanui that the petition lias been drawn up. It is asked that residents interested will attend as a deputation to the conn, cil meeting on Monday night. FANCY DRESS PARTY. The Wairoairi School's party was a great success, with nearly 120 children in costume. Mr Wilkins, as marshal, made the “grand march" as pretty and spectacular a parade as the hall has seen. Two other features were some school items with Mr Evans at the piano and the tine dancing of Miss Marion Grose’s pupils. Mr Fred Corayns played for the grand march and Mrs C. Smith for the dancing.
