PARIS HILL (Maine), August 15. Captain Harry Lyon, who assisted Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith and Flight-Lieutenant Ulm in their flight across the Pacific in the Southern Cross, will return to his home here wrth only the money that he made from the trans-Pacific flight, 6000 dollars which-was given him bv friends m Oakland, and is attached in a civil
" I could not bear to see the name of my father, Admiral Lyon, on the billboards,” Captain Lyon declared, explaining his refusal of a twenty-week vaudeville contract at 2500 dollars a week.
While the Southern Cross was in flight, Mr Ordway sent him many messages proposing cinema and other contracts on his return. Captain Lvon " irelessed his assent, and accepted his passage money from Ordwav because he was penniless at the completion of the flight. He had refused to .accept a share of the purse presented to the Australian members of the crew.
Mr Ordway met Captain Lyon and Mr James Warner at Honolulu and presented the former with a bill for expenses for 1700 dollars, and unsuccessfully endeavoured to persuade him to accept a vaudeville contract.—Australian Press Association.
