NAVAL AGREEMENT CAUSE OF CONCERN IN UNITED STATES.

POSSIBLE ACTION BY BRITAIN AND FRANCE IS NOT WELCOMED

(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.)

(Received August 17. 11.45 am.) WASHINGTON, August 16.

President Coolidge is perturbed over the possibility of a Fran co-British naval agreement which may be intended to curb American sea strength. He has called Admiral Charles Hughes, Chief of Naval Operations, to Brule, to explain to him the compromise in expert terms. Officials here are admittedly seriously concerned over the anti-Amer-ican implication in the agreement, and now this concern has been communicated to the President. —Australian Press Association.
