N.S.W. GOVERNMENT INSISTS ON CUT IN COAL PRICES.

COST PLACING HEAVY BURDEN OH BUYERS. (United Proas Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received July 24, 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 24. The Bavin Government is taking definite action to solve the problem ol depression in the coal trade. The Premier stated that the Government will insist on a reduction in the price of coal, the high price of which is imposing a heavy burden on the railways, tramways and other facilities, in addition to . keeping up manufacturing costs. The overseas trade, which absorbed three and a half million tons in 1913, now stood at only a million and a half tons. Inter-State trade had similarly dwindled. A conference of the parties interested, including the .Government, is nowtrying to arrive at a basis of compromise which will enable the industrv to be put on a stable footing.—Australian Press Association.
