CANTERBURY LEAGUE TEAM SELECTED.

WILL PLAY AGAINST AUCKLAND ON JULY 21. The Canterbury Rugby League selectors picked the following team last evening to play Auckland at Auckland on July 21:— Fu 11-back —B.'O’Connell (Addington). Three-quarters—T. Davidson (Sydenham), G. Brittenden (Marist, vice-cap-tain), R. Bond (Marist). Five-eighths—P. Smith (Hornby), E. Spillane (Marist). Half-back—Cliff Woods (Hornby, captain). Forwards—A. Collie (Addington), P. Hanrahan (Marist), W. Woodgate (Hornby), E. Consedine (Marist). B. Heuchan (Sydenham), E. Spencer (Waimairi). Emergencies—Back: N. Gillespie (Marist); forward: A. Ward (Hornby). W. Le Warne and P. Burns were not available. LEAGUE MATCH TO BENEFIT WORKLESS. THACKER SHIELD GAME ON SATURDAY WEEK Dr Thacker and Mr E. L. M’Keon (representing the Rugby League) met the Trades Hall Unemployment Committee this morning, and discussed arrangements for the first round of the Thacker Shield contest, which will be played on Saturday, July 21, for the benefit of the committee’s funds. It was stated that permission had been obtained to have tables in Cathedral Square on July 20 for the sale of tickets. The Mayor will be asked to call a meeting for Tuesday afternoon next for ladies to sell tickets. Members of the committee will select a small number of unemployed to sell tickets in the Square. All tickets will be numbered and stamped “ Trades Hall Unemployment Committee.” Mr M’Keon was appointed secretary and Mr A. Tongue treasurer. Money from tickets sold in Kaiapoi will be handed to the Kaiapoi Committee. It was suggested that ladies should attend the Addington yards on Wednesday and sell tickets there. A proposal that members of the committee should ask business people for donations in kind was approved. EX-WEST COAST CLUB. Ex-West Coast Club team to play Hornby at Monica Park at 2.45 p.m.:C.
