EAGLE KILLS BOY WHO ROBBED EYRIE.
(Special to the “Star"). PARIS, June 1. A 12-year-old Algerian boy, Ali Abd-el-Kader, has been killed by an eagle near Oran while trying to steal a rabbit. from the eagle’s eyrie _ The boy and his companions -noticed that the eagle carried food daily to an eaglet. They made a practice of waiting tiU the eagle had flown off and then stealing its prey. The eyrie is situated at the top of a cliff about 100 feet high. Ali decided to rob the nest alone. He climbed the rliff, but when he seized a rabbit, which the eagle had just brought, the bird returned, pecked his head violently, and l>eat his face violently with its wings till the boy lost his balance, fell from the cliff and was instantly killed. The French police, unable to catch the mother eagle, “ arrested ” the eaglet, but the natives pcrsxiaded them to release it and not to destroy the mother, as they declared that the latter was a "Marabout” eagle arid therefore holy.
