MYTHICAL MRS HARRIS.

(Special to the “Star.”) LONDON, May 14. I An ingenious fraud—the victim* of which were a firm of solicitors—has been brought to the notice of Scotland Yard, and search is being made for the parpetrator, a powerfully built man about forty years of age. The man called upon a firm of solictors in Newingtcu Butts, S.E., and explained that he had knocked down a woman named Mrs Harris with hi* lorry in Richmond. He instructed the solicitor* to write to the woman’s legal adviser in Richmond offering £45 as compensation. Then he called upon a Richmond firm of solicitors, and r.i “Mr Harris,” husband of the injured woman, engaged them to take up the case for compensation. When the letter offering £45 in settlement had reached the Richmond solicitors “Mr Harris” was there to ask for £6 on account. Later he received a further £2 10s. Alter wards the solicitors discovered that there had been no accident.
