Hamilton Man Gets £28,750 From English Estates.

THREE CHRISTCHURCH PEOPLE ALSO BENEFIT UNDER TERMS OF UNCLE’S WILL

A FORTUNE of £28,750 hss Williams Brown, of Ila mil two uncles in England.

Cabled advice, was received by Mr Brown yesterday that the Probate Court case concerning the disposition of the estate of his uncle, Mr Charles Joseph Brown, a Newport banker, referred to in that morning’s cablegrams, had been settled. Charles Brown died last May, aged eighty, and his estate was valued at £50,000. The case has been settled as the result of an agreement to divide the estate equally between Miss Ansell, the late Mr Brown’s housekeeper, and the four children of Brown’s brother, each of whom will receive £IO,OOO.

The fortunes of the Brown family were founded by Samuel James Browngrandfather of Leonard Brown, of Hamilton. The former owned two private banks, known as William Williams, Brown and Co., of Leeds, and Brown, Jensen and Co., of London. The businesses were carried on by Charles Joseph Brown and his brother, the late Mr William James Brown. The latter died last August, leaving a net personalty of £300,000, one sixteenth of which Mr Leonard Brown inherits, in addition to the amount left by his uncle Charles. This brings Mr Brown's fortune up to £28,750. Christchurch. Mr Leonard Brown was born in Christchurch fifty-six years ago. For the pafct fourteen years he has been a resident of Hamilton, and for four years has conducted a labour registry office. His father is living in retirement in Auckland. Mr Brown is married, and has six children. While in Hamilton, Mr Brown has taken a keen interest in athletics. He is president of the Hamilton Amateur Athletic Association and chairman of the Hamilton Rugby Union Advisory Board. He is also handicapper for various Waikato sports fixtures and swimming events.

ALMOST SURE OF £18,750.

Per Press Association. HAMILTON. June 23. Apparently Mr L. W. Brown, of Hamilton, inherited £18,750 in addition to the £IO,OOO from the estate of Charles Brown, mentioned yesterday. The sum of £18,750 comes from another uncle, William James Brown, who died in August and left £300,000, a quarter of which is to tie divided between three nephews and a niece in New Zealand. Mr Brown stated this morning that this legacy was not absolutely assured, but he considered it so, according to legal advice.
