HEATHCOTE COUNTY WILL NOT PAY MORE THAN £loo FOR CANAL RESERVE
The Heathcote County Council met last evening; present—Messrs C. Flavell (chairman), J. L. Dank?, W. Scarff, W. Kerr, J. H. Moore and B. Riley. It was decided to prepare plans and estimates for an extension of the Mount Pleasant water scheme. The Highways Board notified that authority had been granted to expend £3OO on the construction of Dyer’s Pass Highway. The Main Highways Board drew the council’s attention to regulation sixteen of the Motor Vehicle Regulations, which required that sign-posts shall be erected by road controlling authorities. The board would subsidise the cost of sign-posts erected on main highways. The inspector reported that exceptionally wet weather had caused considerable damage to roads in all parts of the county.
He reported on repairs which had been effected in Avon, Bromley, the Valley, Hillsborough, Cashmere and Mount Pleasant. Part of Page’s Road was very bad and would have to be patched. The report was adopted. It was decided to give public notice of intention to raise a loan of £BOOO. to be spent on certain works in connection with the Cashmere water supply to be specified. The county clerk was instructed to make application for the permission of the Loans Board. It; was decided to inform the Christchurch City Council that the County Council could not see its way clear to contribute more than £IOO towards the improvement of the Canal Reserve Road. It was decided to place six lights in prominent places in the Mount Pleasant district.
