MOISEIWITSCH TO GIVE RECITALS AT THE CONCERT HALL
Not only is Benno Moiseiwitsch, the famous pianist, a wonderful Chopin interpreter, but he is a youthful, virile master technician, who can play Chopin as beautifully as he can play Debussy, Beethoven, Liszt, Wagner, Scriabin, Stravinsky, Palmgren, Moskowsky and Schubert. He knows them all, he invests their compositions with a charm all of his own, a charm of understanding, sympathy and bon accord, One very seldom hears nowadays the equal of the poetic beauty with which he pervades his interpretations. Bonno Moiseiwitsch is now delighting New Zealanders with his wonderful playing, and he comes to the Municipal Concert Hall on Wednesday next. Messrs J. and N. Tait are ushering Moiseiwitsch through New Zealand, as they have ushered many famous people of recent years—Galli Curci, Paderewski, Heifetz, to mention a few, and now Moiseiwitsch. He is a pianist who is a master of the keyboard and pedal. His ability is not limited to one composer, as will be seen from the formidable array of composers on his first programme—Beethoven and the others mentioned about have a place, and among the big works, sandwiched between compositions in lighter vein that will serve to demonstrate the versatility of the youthful pianist, will be found the Sonata Appassionata of Beethoven, the Allegro Assai, the Andante Con Moto, and the exquisite Allegro Ma Non Troppo-Presto, to formulate the three movements. Debussy will be represented by “La Cathedrale Engloutie”; Palmgren by “Refrain de Berceau,” a favourite; Schubert by his Impromptu in A Flat; Stravinsky by the F Sharp Major Etude, a revelation for musical students; Moskowslcy by “La Jongleuse”; Scriabin by his Nocturne; Chopin by the Valse in G Flat Major, the Ballade in A Flat Major and the Nocturne in F Sharp Major; while the names of Wagner-Liszt are associated in the massive Tannhauser Overture —a programme to enthrall. Box plans for reserved seats are now open at The Bristol. There are special concessions to students, and application forms may be obtained at The Bristol.
