At present little progress is being being made with the installation of the automatic telephone in Christchurch. Mr D. E. Parton, telegraph engineer, stated yesterday that the Department was awaiting the arrival of fresh material from OA'erseas and it would probably be the end of winter before further progress could be made with the installation.
