May 22 Bishop Blackburn has accepted the resignation of the Rev E. B. Lauria, vicar of St Cuthbert’s. Mr Lauria declares th.it he did not use unlawful rites or ceremonies. 11“ taught nothing that was unlawful.— Australian Press Association. The resignation of Mr Lauria is the Climax to a long and heated religious controversy which has centred upon St Cuthbert's Church. The Rev E. Lauria’s church was the scene of several unseemly disturbances, when members of the congregation sang hymns continuously during the service, when Mr Lauria introduced the Sung Eucharist. Police had to be called to remove those creating the disturbances and, on one occasion, had to protect Mr Lauria from a menacing crowd.
