HOCKEY.
CANTERBURY BODY HOLDS MEETING. The Management Committee of the Canterbury Hockey Association met last evening; present—Messrs L. L. Smith (chairman), R. Campbell, H. M. Lamb. J. Hitchen, A- Graham, J. Pascoe, A. Mahoney, G. Graham, L. Ward, E. Harvey, H. Snooks, H. R. Sampson and J. H. Williamson. The Domains Board wrote sanctioning the use of the wire nets on Hagle> Park, providing they were kept tidy and in good order. The Rangiora Club wrote stating that a player now playing for* St Albans was unflnancial with Rangiora. As he produced evidence In support of the payment of his dues, no action was regarding matches in which he had already played, but the secretary was instructed to inform the St Albans Club that the player must obtain his clearance before playing again. The New Zealand Association forwarded bulletins containing reports of business transacted at their meetings. The Otago Association asked that matches be arranged for Otago teams as follow:—Senior team at Christchurch and junior and primary schools at Dunedin, the latter for the Hatch Cup. On the motion of the senior selector, it was decided to accept the invitation and that the dates be arranged later. The secretary was instructed to advise the Jubilee Celebrations Committee that the hockey match against Nelson would be played at Hagley Park. The New Zealand Association stated that a special meeting of delegates would be held on June 7 to discuss the alteration of the boundaries of the Waikato and Auckland Associations, and also the affiliation of the New Zealand Hockey Association with the English Hockey Association. The South Canterbury Association wrote stating that they were making arrangements to play two matches against Canterbury A and B teams at Ashburton on June 4. The Geraldine Club also wrote Intimating that they were arranging a match against a Canterbury eleven at Ashburton on June 4. As there was a possibility of a fourth match being arranged with the Ashburton Association, it was decided to endeavour to secure four teams to travel to Ashburton on that date. The question of securing teams was left to the senior and junior selectors, and players willing to make the trip were requested to hand their names Into the Sports Depot as soon as possible. The Nelson Association wrote accepting the arrangements made for the match on Saturday and stating that the team would arrive in Christchurch on Friday at 1.30 p.m. and leave on Sunday by motor. Messrs R. Grade and C. Bellamy were appointed referees for the match. On the motion of Mr Sampson, it was decided to ask for permission to take up a collection at the match, the proceeds to be devoted to the incurred by H. Hale, who was injured on Saturday last. The Varsity Club were granted permission to travel to Wellington to play in the inter-Varsity tournament. The Ladies' Association were grantee permission to use all the hockey grounds* at Hagley Park on June 4, provided they paid for any extra marking necessary. On the recommendation of the Competitions Committee, it was decided t»» postpone senior, Junior and third-grad*, matches on Saturday on account of th*. Nelson v. Canterbury match. The register-keeper reported the laxity of captains in returning teams forms, and it was decided to enforce a fine in future for non-compliance with the rule. The Primary Schools Committee reportted that competition matches would commence on Saturday next. On the motion of the chairman, it was decided to express the committee’s sympathy with Mr Hale for his accident on Saturday last. It was decided to hold the next meeting on Tuesday, June 5. Messrs J. Pascoe and H. R. Sampson were appointed managers for the teams to Ashburton on June 4. The selector submitted tne following team to play against Nelson on Saturday next:—H. Snooks, M. A. M’Donald A. Mahoney, B. Rogers, B. Morris, H. # Hore, R. Sheriffs, S. Bell (captain), W Rushbridg*?. H. Teague and L. Coffey. Emergencies:—C. Hore and W. Gracie, ELLESMERE SUB-ASSOCIATION. The second round of the Ellesmere Ladies’ Hockey competition, was played on Saturday afternoon. The following were the results: — Southbridge A 4, Leeston 2. Southbridge B 0, Dunsandel 7. Southbridge C 2, Leeston B 1.
