NEW BRIGHTON BOROUGH COUNCIL HAS MEETING.
A meeting of the New Brighton Borough Council was held last evening. Present —The Alayor (Captain A. W. Owles), Councillors F. D. Muirson, K. Smith, J. C. Scott, T. Robins, A. E. Lawrv, R. A. Stokes, and E. A. M. Leaver. The Christchurch Municipal Band forwarded a cheque for payment of an account and advised that the Band Committee regretted that it was unable to pay a subsidy to the council owing to the loss on the gala. The chairman of the Local Government Loans Board wrote advising that the board had considered the application of a loan for the erection of saltwater swimming baths at a meeting held on May 9, and declined to sanction the application. The letter was received. On Councillor Leaver's motion the 1928-29 estimates were referred back to the committee, pending the Town Clerk's return from his annual leave. Councillor F. D. Muirson moved, “That the motion carried at a previous nieeting of the council, that this council does not approve of a 6ft 6in clearance for the proposed new Sea View Road Bridge ” be rescinded. After considerable discussion the motion was lost. It was decided on the motion of
the Mayor to ask the Local Government Loans Board for details of the objection to the proposed salt water swimming baths. Air R. Torepe was appointed acting Town Clerk during the Town Clerk’s annual leave,
