LEAGUE GAME.

CANTERBURY EXECUTIVE. A meeting: of the executive of the Canterbury Rugby League last night was attended by Messrs J. K. Worrall (chairman), F. Sheahan, L. Cox, P. Kirton, H. Pannells, IT. Lawrence, H. M. Blazey, L. Amos. P. H. Cotton (proxy for Mr E. Jones) and the honorary secretary (Mr S. M. Richardson). The Addington Club wrote stating that Mr L. Amos had been appointed its representative on the executive. It was decided that a SydenhamAddington match next Saturday should form the special game requested by the Jubilee Celebrations Committee. The secretary reported that. hie had given a letter of introduction to Mr J. M. Coffey, a past, member of the executive for several years, who has left on a health trip to Australia. The letter- was addressed to the secretary of the New South Wales Rugby League. The Junior Advisory Board was granted permission to send a Canterbury schoolboys’ representative team to the West Coast to play a match for the Norman Cox Memorial Cup. Owing to similarity of the colours or the Addington and Waimairi jerseys it was decided to ask Waimairi to change their colours. The club s dele-

gate (Mr Blazey) stated that the jerseysl could easily be dyed. To go into the question of re-adjust-ment of weights of players in the lower grades, Messrs Sheahan and Cox, with the chairman and secretary ex officio, wvre appointed to confer with the Junior Advisory Board, on the. recommendation of which such appointments were made. Statements were made that there had been published a misleading report that a collection had been taken up at the gates of Sydenham Park, whereas the collection had been taken among the crowd inside the park, and the collectors had not gone near the gates. The Marist Club was granted use of Monica Park No. 3 ground, created by re-arrangement of the No. 2 ground and its adjacent areas. Stipulations regarding transfer and re-grading of players were approved for incorporation in the rules. OUTSPOKEN SECRETARY. “I’m against, a League player going over to Rugby and then wanting to comte back almost straight away. We don’t want men like that, and we can do without them," declared the secretary of the Canterbury Rugby Leagtie (Mr S. M. Richardson) at the meeting of the executive last night. . “If a player goes over to Rugby for several seasons, that is all right,” he added, "but we may have the prospect of any player turning out in the League code one Saturday, playing Rugby the next, and then wanting to come back to League.” These remarks followed on reception of an application from H. Hartley for reinstatement to the League codte. The applicant stated that, since leaving the Papanui district, where he had played junior grade for the Waimairi League Club, he had turned out on one Saturday for the Merivale Rugby team. He asked for reinstatement on thte grounds that he had left the Merivale district and was again residing in Papanui. The Waimairi Club’s delegate (Mr H. M. Blazey said that the applicant had played senior B grade for Merivale. He was only sixteen or seventeen years of age, and had no intention of trifling with the League authorities. He had gone to a district where practically all persons, including his mates, were supporters of Rugby, and he had consequently thrown in his lot with Meri*Mr Richardson: We can do without players who are so half-hearted as that. Mr L. Amos (Addington Club) agreed with Mr Richardson. A motion that the applicant be granted reinstatement from Rugby to League was carried on the voices. An amendment that the player be asked to appear before the centre in suppoi’t of his application was defeated. CASE HELD OVER. The Woolston senior grade player who was ordered off the field in the match against Hornby at Hornby on Saturday (J. Wakefield), will be allowed to play until his case is dealt with next Monday night. Such was the decision of the executive of the Canterbury Rugby League last night, when the referee (Mr E. Jones) reported that he had ordered off J. Wakefield "for persistently questioning his rulings.” The referee, in his letter, added that, as he was not able to be present that night, he had asked the player to appear before the Centre the following week. Mr F. Sheahkn moved that the player be allowed to play until his case was heard. An amendment by Mr H. Lawrence that the player be stood down until next Monday lapsed for want of a seconder, and tpe motion was carried. REMARK WITHDRAWN. Criticism of a newspaper report of a discussion at last week’s meeting of the Canterbury Rugby League was made by the chairman of the executive (Mr J. K. Worrall) at the meeting of the League last night. He said that it was not fair of the newspaper concerned to publish only one side of the matter, and that side being to the ‘detriment 1 of the code. The. papers should give a fair and impartial report of the proceedings at the meetings. Mr Worrall stated that one newspaper had published the whole discussion regarding a letter from the ex-West Coast Club, and had stated that a delegate had referred to the ex-West Coast Club as a “ mob.” The speaker's complaint against the newspaper was that it had not published that the remark was withdrawn unhesitatingly by the delegate, who apologised for use of the expression, which he had described as merely a figure of speech. If the chairman and several others had not been able to point out to members of the exWest Coast Club that the remark had been withdrawn, the report' would have done’ a certain amount of harm.
