HEEBIE JEEBIES IS DANCE FOR THE AGILE.

(Special to the “Star.”) MELBOURNE, April 9. The advent of the Heebie Jeebies to Melbourne on the floor of the Embassy, drew a crowded house that included many of Melbourne’s, leading amateur dancers on Saturday night. In their demonstrations of latest fashions ,and the London ballroom, Mr Charles Scrimshaw and Miss Marjorie Stediford gave one of the most skilful exhibitions yet seen in Melbourne. From the stealthy movements of the Yale Blues, the couple went into the whirl of the Heebie Jeebies. For the more youthful section of pur ballroom dancers it must have an instantaneous appeal. The rapidity with which the Whirl Turn is performed demands the perfect balance which the demonstrators showed they possess. Following this comes a suggestion of the tango corte. The dancers pause, and make their heels move in a way which suggests the “ shivers.” It is distinct from the Charleston for at no- time do the dancers lift their feet entirely off the floor. It can be safely prophesied that the Heebie Jeebies will lie popular among those who are agile and also take the trouble to learti it thorotighly. It is danced to a fox-trot rhythm. The last item, the Rhythm Step, is a neat movement for dancers who require something different to dance when the band plays a fox-trot. The method of accenting the step on the

second beat of the music should • be easily performed by any dancer who has a clear sense of rhythm. It is quite simple, although it has an appearance which suggests it is intricate.

Mr Scrimshaw, who is a leading London demonstrator, has a splendid action on the floor, which, allied to a keen rhythmic sense, enables him to give an ideal demonstration of the finer points in ballroom dancing. The cat-like tread of the Yale Blues, t e jaunty steps of tho Heebie Jeebies, or the subtlety 'of movement in the Rhythm Step, were danced with equal ease by this clever exponent.
