MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) FAILURE TO MAINTAIN. William Henry Hudson was charged with being in arrears of maintenance to the extent of £56 for the support of his child. Sub-Inspector Fitzpatrick said that accused had made arrangements to pay the maintenance last October, but had failed to do so. He was a single man and was perfectly able-bodied. Accused said that he had been out of work for two months. He did not know where the child was or where the mother was. The Magistrate made an order that £46 should be remitted from the arrears and that accused pay £lO within 14 days, in default one month’s hard labour. “NOT IN CRIMINAL CLASS.” Found drunk in an occupied room of the Britannia Hotel last evening, Sydney Ilall pleaded guilty to being unlawfully on the premises. Accused, who had been two years in New Zealand, said that he had wanted to stay the night at the hotel. He was drunk at the time, and did not remember much of the occurrence. The Rev H. C. Revell offered to do what he could for accused. “He does not look to be in the criminal class, and I don’t want to send him to gaol,” said the Magistrate.
