SCOPE OF INQUIRY ON T.B. TREATMENT IS ANNOUNCED.
COMMITTEE TO CONSIDER ACCOMMODATION PHASE. .(Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON. May 22. The order of reference for the committee set up by the Minister of Health to inquire into the prevention and treatment of tuberculosis was announced last night. The committee will inquire int& the following matters : The past and present incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis in New Zealand. Measures now taken in New Zealand for the prevention and treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. Whether the beds available in the sanatoria, hospitals and other institutions for the reception of cases of pulmonary tuberculosis are adequate as regards number and distribution. Whether the sanatoria, hospitals and other institutions are being used to the best advantage. What additional institutions, if any, are required, or What extensions, if any, are necessary to the existing institutions. Whether the action taken against pulmonary tuberculosis other than the provision of institutional beds is sufficient, considering the incidence of the disease, the size and distribution of population of the Dominion, the financial condition of the country and the public funds available for general health purposes. What other means, if any, are considered necessary to combat the disease, either as regards action by hospital boards, voluntary agencies, or the Department of Health. Whether there exists at the present time sufficient co-ordination of all agencies dealing with pulmonary tuberculosis, and if not, what measures are suggested ?
