CONSULAR OFFICERS ARE TRANSFERRED.

(Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, May 21. The American Consul-General in New Zealand, Mr W. L. Lowrie, will leave Auckland for Washington by the Aorangi on June 5. Mr Lowrie hopes to return in October, and during his absence the Consulate-General will be in charge of Mr Bernard Gotlieb, who has been Consul to the American Con-sulate-General at Singapore lie has been transferred to Wellington and will arrive by the Makura to-morrow. Mr Gotlieb has been in the American foreign service for the last thirteen years. lie was born in New York City and is a graduate of Colombia University. He began his career as a Consular assistant and studentinterpreter in Turkey. lie was then made Vice-Consul and interpreter at Bagdad. Later on he was on duty in the Department of State at Washington. He was detailed to Cairo, where he acted as Vice-Consul and interpreter. He was then detailed to Teheran. Persia, yvhere he was Vice-Consul and interpreter and later on was promoted to the position of Consul. After leaving Teheran Mr Gotlieb served at Halifax, Nova Scotia, and at Singapore. Straits Settlements. Mr J. C. Hudson, who has been at Wellington as Vice-Consul for the last five years, has been transferred to Singapore, where he will be Vice-Con-sul attached to the American Consulate General there.
