UNEMPLOYED ATTACK RELIEF SCHEMES.

married WORKERS GOT INTO DEBT, THEY DECLARE. Per Press Association. NAPIER, May 21. A large meeting of unemployed this morning criticised the Government relief schemes. Instances were given of married men going on relief jobs and coming off in debt. The Mayor (Mr J. Vigor-Brown) expressed the opinion that relief of unemployment was a problem for the Government. Speakers instanced the influx of immigrants as one of the main causes of unemployment. It was said that scrub cutting work was now offering on farms, and modern machinery was obviating the necessity for wharf labourers for the handling of coal, oil and other products. Speakers expressed tho opinion that the Government should open up fresh avenues of employment for those disappearing.
