M’KEGNEY SISTERS AGAIN IN COURT.
ISABELLA, DRUNK FOR THIRD TIME IN WEEK, WILL NOW GO TO GAOL. The sisters M’Kegney faced the Magistrate’s Court this morning on charges of drunkenness. Isabella was sentenced to fourteen days with hard labour, whilst Mary was fined 40s, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. Isabella’s case was called first, and she admitted the offence. Sub-Inspector Fitzpatrick said it was her third arrest for drufikenness within a week. j The Magistrate (Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.): I suppose she wants to get away for the winter. Fourteen days’ hard labour. Mary admitted her offence, which, along with that of her sister, occurred in Victoria Square. . Without giving the sub-inspector time to recite the circumstances, Mary proceeded to tell the Magistrate that she had just come out of hospital yesterday, that she had been in hospital for five weeks, that she had been very ill with pleurisy, and that she was going under an operation soon. Before she had finished, however, the Magistrate interrupted her with “40s, in default forty-eight hours.”
