THREE REFORMERS SEEK NOMINATION.

WILLING TO CONTEST AUCKLAND SUBURBS. (Special to the "Star.”) AUCKLAND, May 18. Another candidate for the Reform Party nomination for the Auckland Suburbs seat at the general election is Mr Marshall Laing, of New Lynn. Other Reform candidates are Messrs D. B. Russell, of Avondale, and B. Bunn, of Kumcu. Mr Laing is willing to submit his name to a ballot of Reform supporters in the district to decide who is to receive the party nomination. The sitting member is Mr IT. G. R. Mason (Labour), and the United Party candidate is Mr E. R. Allen. Mr Laing was born at Titirangi in 1860 iand has resided in the district ever since. lie has had long experience of local government. He was elected to the old Manukau Road Board in 1881, becoming chairman two years later. lie also sat on the Waitemata County Council for twenty years and for two years as chairman. He was elected to the Auckland Harbour Board five years ago. and to the Auckland Hospital Board more recently. Approached by a large •deputation of electors of the newl-v-formed Hauraki electorate at Papakura on Wednesday evening, Mr W. W. Massey definitely refused to accept nomination as the Reform candidate. Mr Massey is a son of the late Prime Minister. Mr John Massey has on several occasions been approached with a view to nomination for the electorate, but has not yet given any indication of his intentions.
