POLICE POUNCE UPON THIEF IN MIDNIGHT WATCH.
BOY CONFESSES TO STEALING SUITCASE. (Special to the “ Star.’’) ASHBURTON, May IS. As a sequel to pilfering at the bowling pavilion in the Domain on Wednesdaj* night. Constables White and Bentley maintained a watch and at midnight arrested a youth of fifteen who came back to recover a " swag ” hidden in the pavilion. Subsequent inquiry showed that the youth had entered two premises earlier in the evening, taking a blanket, two overcoats, and other articles valued at £6 from one.
In a statement to the police, the lad admitted entering the Post and Telegraph Department’s camp at Rakaia and taking a suitcase containing clothing and other things. Accused, who had come from Christchurch, appeared in the Juvenile Court to-day and was remanded till June 1, when, it is understood, further charges will be preferred against him.
