UNION OFFICIALS MISUSING POWER, DECLARES BRUCE.

DEFENDS AMENDMENT TO ARBITRATION BILL. (United Pres® Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received May 18. 10.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, May 18. Mr Bruce, in the House of Representatives, replying to criticism on the amending of the Arbitration Bill, reviewed the industrial position in Australia. fie said that things could not be allowed to go on exactly as they were going. The Trade Unions had become political in their aspirations and some of the leaders who had found themselves possessed of great power were using it in a manner not intended in the original Trade Union objective. The Bill would enable Trade Unionism to occupy the position it deserved. Mr W. M. Hughes secured an adjournment. —Australian Press Association.
