BOND OF SENTIMENT PROVED TOO STRONG.
Although some time ago there was a proposal to shift some of the churches from the heart of London, and transfer them to various parts of the Empire, the Rev F. B. Allen, a visitor from Southwark, England, expressed the opinion in an interview this morning, that he was very doubtful if anything would ever come of the proposal. The bonds of sentiment, he declared, were so strong that the Londoners -were unlikely to part with these churches. For one church the sum of nearly £500,000 was offered for the site alone, but for purely sentimental reasons the oiler was turned down. 1 hese churches, he considered, were not useless, even though they were now situated in business areas, as on weekdays they were frequently crowded for mid-dav services. They were also used as places for private devotions.
